Construction Update 09-21-18

Center City

This week on the Albert side, level 2 west concrete pours were completed as slab-on-grade and underground work continues underneath. Next week, on the east side, the 5th floor will be poured, weather permitting. Masonry is expected to be on-site next week as well to start work on shear walls and exterior masonry walls.

On the Grand River building, the 7th floor pours should be completed by early next week, with 7th floor panels being set shortly thereafter. Rough framing, interior partition walls, plumbing, and other work is taking place on interior sections of the lower floors. A buck hoist (exterior construction elevator) is expected to make its way onto the site next week. It will be located within the construction site, on the west side (near the alley closure). Per the state safety requirements, the buck hoist will be inspected by the state elevator inspector and have a dedicated operator with special training.

On Level 2, a third of the concrete slabs are complete. A second pour took place on Thursday, (09/20). The last pour on second floor will be Friday (09/28). Level 3 first floor pour will be on Friday, 10/12. Concrete placement will continue on a regular basis, utilizing closed roads or the alley directly adjacent to the project to minimize impacts to traffic/pedestrians. Deliveries will continue to increase, as Electrical, Mechanical, and Fire Suppression trades continue roughing in the garage and first floor, beginning to work their way up the building. Backfill of the foundations is nearing completion, reducing dump truck and earthmoving equipment traffic in and around the site.

The contractor continues to monitor the site for safety and implement additional traffic control techniques as necessary based on delivery volumes. The southern alley is closed and parking has been relocated to East Café across the street.
