Construction Update 08-10-18

Center City

This week four concrete slab pours were completed; three pours on the Grand River building and one on the Albert parking deck. The fifth floor of the Grand River building will be completed by Saturday (08/11) and ready for walls to be erected starting next week. Brick façade work is continuing on the north elevation of the Target space adjacent to the alley. The Target glass storefront is now complete with only the entrance doors left to be installed. Metal siding will begin next week along the Grand River elevation of the Target building. The sidewalk has been removed along Grand River Ave. and is now being prepared for the new sidewalk to be installed the week of 08/13.

The Albert parking deck has two pours very close to being ready. Concrete walls are being formed on the fourth level and should be poured early next week (08/13).

The Hub @ East Lansing

Level one mezzanine is being decked and reinforced in preparation for the first half of the mezzanine pour on Tuesday, (8/14). The second half is scheduled to be poured the following Monday (8/20). Level one deck has been completed as of Friday, (8/3). Back-fill is occurring around foundations on the far east side of the job. Columns for level two have been poured east of the mezzanine deck and the parking ramp that connects level one to the basement was poured yesterday (8/9).

An increase in truck traffic continues to be expected as more materials and equipment make their way on site. We continue to monitor the site for safety and implement additional traffic control techniques as necessary. We are working with neighbors on a plan to accommodate access and parking. The plan to install a crosswalk across Bogue St. on the south of the site, is still being developed. The contractor will close off the alley south of the site for the remainder of the project in 2-3 weeks. Fraternity parking will be relocated to the East Cafe parking lot.

Parking Garage Repairs

Work continues through the downtown Public Parking Garages with concrete and water-proofing repairs. The concrete and patching work in the Division Street Parking Garage has been completed. Deck-coating will also be completed in the Division Street Parking Garages. The deck coating has been completed in the Charles Street Parking Garage. Minor interior caulking should be completed by the end of work today (08/10). The exterior caulking and brick repair has been completed in the Charles Street Parking Garage. All lanes of street traffic have been opened back up, as well as the alley. Barricading and signage will be in place to help with pedestrian and traffic flow in garages. This work will impact some parking spaces in the garage. Because of some unexpected necessary repairs, the project has been extended for several days. The project is expected to be completed by mid-August.

Sidewalk Repairs

Construction at the intersection of Albert Ave. and Collingwood Drive began on Monday, (8/06). There will be a complete closure of the intersection with pedestrian and vehicle detours. It is anticipated the intersection will be closed for two more weeks.
