Construction Update 06-08-18

Center City: A concrete pour is scheduled for the week of June 11, 2018. An extended hours request has been submitted for one day either Monday (6/11), Tuesday (06/12) or Wednesday (6/13). Weather allowing, this work will begin at 5:00AM and end at 11:00PM. This elevated deck is a post-tensioned structure that requires extra precaution and time be taken with the placement of the concrete to ensure the best quality end product. The contractor has agreed to minimize any project noise during the extended hours, especially from 5:00AM to 8:00AM.

The contractor has an approved extended hours request to work on Sunday (06/10), from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Work will be primarily on the Grand River building. The tower crane will be in use. There will be no concrete pours on that day.

Demolition of the sidewalk, on the north side of Albert Ave., from Grove St. to Abbot Road, has been completed. The Contractor is anticipating the new water service connections will take place on Monday, (06/11) and Tuesday, (06/12) for Menna’s Joint, Black Cat Bistro and Harper’s. This work will be scheduled in order to have the least amount of impact on each business. City staff and representatives from the project will be visiting businesses in the affected area to discuss the plan and coordinate connections.

Demolition of the sidewalk, on the south side of Albert Ave., from Abbot Road to the west end of the project site, is anticipated to take place on Wednesday (06/13) and Thursday (06/14). The demo will be phased to allow the businesses to be open during this work and maintain access to the residential units. City staff and representatives from the project will be visiting businesses in the affected area to discuss the plan and coordinate connections.

The Hub @ East Lansing

Foundation work continues to take center stage at the Hub project, as some unexpected underground conditions have added some work (and concrete) to the job. Underground plumbing has been permitted and preparations are underway for the work to start later this week. Slab on grade concrete pours are being planned for next week moving from west to east on the site. An increase in truck traffic is expected as more materials and equipment make their way on site. The contractor continues to monitor the site for safety and implements additional traffic control techniques as necessary.

In order to better access the site, a plan is being developed to close the alley on the south side of the site. If approved, this closure would take place in July and last for the remainder of the project period. The contractor is working with neighbors on a plan to accommodate access and parking.

Parking Garage Repairs

Work continues on the Grove Street parking structure as the need for some additional repairs were discovered. The roof work will complete tomorrow, and the roof deck will be re-opened. The contractor will continue to complete the additional repairs throughout the ramp, which is now expected to take another week or two.

Staging has begun on the Division Street ramp, with the anticipation that work will begin early next week. This work will necessitate the closure of the roof deck to maintain safety during that portion of the repairs.

During the parking structure repairs, patrons can expect some parking spaces to be unavailable for periods of time as the workers make their way throughout the garages. Signs and proper barricading will be placed in the facilities where the work is taking place.
