Downtown Construction update 06-01-2018

The concrete pour scheduled for the week of May 28, 2018, was delayed due to weather conditions. The concrete pour has been rescheduled for the week of June 4. An extended hours request has been submitted for one day either Monday (6/04), Tuesday (06/05) or Wednesday (6/6). Weather allowing, this work will begin at 5AM and end at 11PM. This elevated deck is a post-tensioned structure that requires extra precaution and time be taken with the placement of the concrete to ensure the best quality end product. The contractor has agreed to minimize any project noise during the extended hours, especially from 5:00AM to 8:00AM.

The contractor has submitted an extended hours request to work on Sunday, June 3 and Sunday, June 10, 2018, from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Work will be primarily on the Grand River building. The tower crane will be in use. There will be no concrete pours on either day.

In the alley, the water main work was postponed due to unforeseen conditions at the site which necessitate additional planning prior to the water main cut and cap work taking place. Properties that will be affected by this work will be notified once the work has been scheduled.

Demolition of the sidewalk, on the north side of Albert Ave., from Grove St. to Abbot Road, is anticipated to take place on Wednesday (06/06) and Thursday (06/07). The demo will be phased to allow the businesses to be open during this work. City staff and representatives from the project will be visiting businesses in the affected area to discuss the plan and coordinate access for customers.

The water main installation on Albert Ave. is continuing to make its way eastward towards Grove St. City staff and the contractor will be contacting businesses along Albert Ave. to coordinate connecting to the new service in the near future.

Work continues at the site with stair and elevator cores going vertical. Foundation walls along the south side of project are being installed. Under slab plumbing work is underway and the electrical work is slated to begin soon as more of the trades make their way onto the project.

Parking Garage Maintenance

Concrete and Waterproofing maintenance continued in the Grove Street garage this week, and is expected to last one or two more weeks. The roof level has been closed for repairs, but should re-open later next week. As the contractor completes the Grove Street garage work, they will continue on to the Division Street & Charles Street garages. During the repairs, patrons can expect some parking spaces to be unavailable for periods of time as the workers make their way throughout the garages. Signs and proper barricading will be placed in the facilities where the work is taking place.
