Downtown Construction Update 5-18-18
Significant progress was made on the Albert Avenue underground utility work this week. As noted, Abbot Road was closed for several hours last night as the sewer tie in work took place. Weather allowing, the water main tie-in is expected to take place on Monday night (5/21), requiring the closure of Abbot Road from Grand River to Albert. Once again, this closure will take place at 7pm and is expected to last until Midnight. The water main installation will then take place heading eastward down Albert.
As the underground utility work is completed and tested in the next couple weeks, the focus on Albert Avenue will shift to the demolition of the existing curb and sidewalk (on the North side), which will be replaced temporarily with compacted stone. This will allow pedestrian access to be maintained as the work progresses. At that time, the contractor will be reaching out to adjacent businesses to coordinate the connection of their buildings to the new service leads. Once this work is complete, the new sidewalk, curb, and gutter will be installed. This installation is also planned as a phased approach to minimize impacts to pedestrian/ business access.
Concrete pours on elevated decks continued as well this week as the project continues it's ascent. Dust mitigation continues to be implemented as needed.
As a reminder, no Center City construction is to take place during the Art Festival this Saturday and Sunday. For more information about the festival, including a festival and parking map, please visit www.elartfest.com
The HUB @ East Lansing
The second tower crane has been installed and is now operational. The focus of the project is foundational structure, as hundreds of yards of concrete have been poured in foundational walls and stair tower/ elevator cores.
Parking Facility Repairs
Restoration work continued this week on the Grove Street garage. The roof has been re-opened as the contractor continues to make their way through the garage with various repairs. As the contractor completes the Grove garage work, they will continue on to the Charles Street and Division Street garages. During the repairs, patrons can expect some parking spaces to be unavailable for periods of time as the workers make their way throughout the garages. Signs and proper barricading will be placed in the facilities where the work is taking place. The garages will remain open to the general public and all permit holders during the work.
