Downtown Construction Update 5-11-18

Center City

Board of Water and Light Overnight Work

**Please note, weather permitting, some late night/ early morning work is expected to occur between the hours of 3:00am and 7:00am Monday, May 14. The Board of Water and Light (BWL) will be making utility connections for the project area, which will involve an electrical shutdown to the buildings directly adjacent to the project. Although some light/ workers will be on site, no noisy work is anticipated during that time. Businesses directly impacted by the shutdown have been notified in advance by BWL.

** Questions can be directed to the BWL at 517-702-6006 or 877-295-5001.

Albert Avenue underground utility work is underway, and expected to last approximately 6 weeks. Detours are in place for cars, and pedestrian access will be maintained on the North side of Albert throughout this portion of the work. The sidewalks and walkways will also be reconstructed during this phase.

Weather permitting, the first elevated deck pour on the Albert Avenue building will take place on Monday, May 14. Given the size and nature of this pour, extended hours work is not necessary.

On the Grand River side, the covered walkway has been illuminated as work has reached the third story deck. An extended hours request has been approved for a one day window either Wednesday, May 16, Thursday, May 17 or Friday, May 18 from 5:00AM to 11:00PM, the day of the pour. For text updates, please text EL BUZZ to 38470. This elevated deck is a post-tensioned structure that requires extra precaution and time be taken with the placement of the concrete to ensure the best quality end product. The contractor has agreed to minimize any project noise during the extended hours, especially from 5:00AM to 8:00AM. City staff and the construction company are reaching out to adjacent residents.

Parking Facility Repairs

Restoration work began this week on the roof of the Grove Street garage. As the contractor completes their work, they will continue on to the Charles Street and Division Street garages. During this work, patrons can expect some parking spaces to be unavailable for periods of time as the workers make their way throughout the garages. Signs and proper barricading will be placed in the facilities where the work is taking place.

The Hub @ East Lansing

Foundation work, now including foundational walls, continues to be the focus of work in preparations to take the project vertical.

The night work and eastbound lane closures scheduled to begin Monday, May 14 to erect the tower crane will no longer take place. The crane tower will now be erected from inside the project fence.

Thank you for your patience during the construction period. Please remember to sign up for downtown East Lansing construction alerts by texting ELBUZZ to 38470. As always, you can reach the City Construction Communication Team at construction@cityofeastlansing.com or (517) 319-6930 with any questions.
