Center City
Work on the second floor of the parking deck is now well underway. Weather allowing, it is anticipated that the first major elevated concrete pour will occur beginning in the early morning hours of Thursday, April 19. Due to the nature of the work, a request has been approved to extend work hours from 4:00AM to 9:00PM that day. The elevated deck is a post-tensioned structure requiring that extra precautions and time be taken with placement of the concrete to ensure the best quality end product. The contractor has agreed to minimize any project noise during the extended hours, especially from 4:00AM to 8:00AM. City staff and the construction company are reaching out to adjacent residents.
Utility work continues to be a priority on the site as well. To minimize disruption to business, the Board of Water and Light will be reaching out to businesses individually regarding switching power over to the new services.
The Hub at East Lansing
The site work continues to be focused on mass excavation and foundation work at the Hub project site. It is expected that a sidewalk closure on the south side of Grand River will be necessary for safety as a covered walkway is installed next week. The sidewalk closure should begin on April 18, and last several days until the walkway has been completed. Pedestrian detours will be in place to help people navigate around the site. The first of two large cranes is expected to be installed on site the week of April 23.
On both projects, truck traffic continues to be expected as materials (especially concrete) and equipment are transported to and from the site. City staff is monitoring area roadways to ensure proper cleanup occurs, especially as spring rains can cause muddy conditions that need to be managed properly. The construction companies will continue to examine their sites to mitigate any impacts to the local community.
