Construction Update 07-03-19

Park District

This week, the transfer slab on the fourth floor is being decked in preparation for concrete pours the following weeks. This will continue to be the main thrust of the work until the transfer slab is complete and work transitions to the placement of wall panels for the upper floors, later this summer.

On the hotel site, preparations are underway to bring the project vertical, with a special crane now inspected and operational on site.

Center City

On the Grand River side, the final finishes are underway on the interior. The finishing touches on the amenity levels are nearing completion. The Grand River sidewalk and streetscape amenities adjacent to the project are mostly complete as well. The resurfacing of M.A.C. Ave., from Grand River Ave. to Albert Ave. is planned to begin next week (see below). A partial alley closure will also be necessary on the east side, to make way for a temporary crane (see below).

On the Albert side, the sidewalks are mostly complete. The base for decorative pavers has been installed as well, with pavers and street lights expected to be installed beginning next week. Road grading, decorative cross walk installation, and the paving of Albert Ave. is planned to begin the week of July 15 (see below). Upstairs, more progress has taken place with utility rough-ins completed and drywall nearly complete, and on finishes such as flooring, cabinets, paint, and fixtures taking place on final floors. Balconies are expected to arrive late next week and begin being installed. Windows and facades for the retail exteriors and entrance to the North/South pedestrian link continue to be installed as well, as interior buildouts are underway for several tenants.

City staff is monitoring area roadways to ensure proper cleanup occurs, especially as weather changes can cause muddy conditions that need to be managed properly. The construction company also continues to examine the site to mitigate any impacts to the local community.
