Construction Update 05-17-19

Park District

This week, concrete and 2nd floor decking work were the focus of the mixed use building on the corner of Grand River and Abbot as it continues the vertical rise. Concrete was poured and other preparations for a large transformer which will be installed on site soon.

On the hotel side, Auger cast piles are being installed and are expected to be complete by early next week. The underground contractor will demobilize as work shifts to grade beams and footings next week.

On Tuesday, May 21 or Wednesday, May 22, a temporary closure of Abbot Road, from Grand River to Albert Ave., may take place between the hours of 7 a.m. to noon. Once the closure date and time have been confirmed, City staff will visit the businesses and property managers affected by this closure to make arrangements for access and other items.

Center City

New sidewalks and pavers are complete adjacent to the project along Grand River. Planter boxes with seating are being fabricated and will be installed in the near future. Drywall is mostly complete through the top floor of the Grand River building, with finishes making their way up the building as well.

Next week, work begins to coordinate final fixture deliveries for Target, as well as underground utility work in the alley (see below).

On the Albert side, the curb lines were poured this week as work continues on the exterior hardscapes. Windows are making their way on the northern retail/ restaurant areas as the Board of Water & Light began work to install the street lights along Albert. Work continues on the parking structure as drywall has made its way to the top of the apartment building on the east side.

The project will be limited to on-site work during the Art Festival.

City staff is monitoring area roadways to ensure proper cleanup occurs, especially as weather changes can cause muddy conditions that need to be managed properly. The construction company also continues to examine the site to mitigate any impacts to the local community.
