Downtown Construction Update 8-3-18

Center City

This week two concrete pours were completed on the parking ramp along Albert Ave. Next week (08/06) the level five concrete deck will be poured. The ground floor façade brick work and glass along the Target storefront has been installed.

Sidewalk removal and replacement directly adjacent to the project, along Grand River Ave., is scheduled for next week (08/06). During this work one lane of E. Grand River Ave., adjacent to the project, will be closed for one day.

The Hub @ East Lansing

Reinforcements for the last third of level one are currently wrapping up. The final level one pour will take place today (8/3). Shoring is being set for the mezzanine and columns are being poured for level two starting on the west side of the building moving east. The contractor continues to backfill against the foundation walls. No safety issues have occurred.

An increase in truck traffic continues to be expected as more materials and equipment make their way on site. We continue to monitor the site for safety and implement additional traffic control techniques as necessary. We are working with neighbors on a plan to accommodate access and parking. The plan to install a crosswalk across Bogue St. on the south of the site, is still being developed. The contractor will close off the alley south of the site for the remainder of the project in 2-3 weeks. Fraternity parking will be relocated to the East Cafe parking lot.

Parking Garage Repairs

Work continues through the downtown Public Parking Garages with concrete and water-proofing repairs. The concrete and patching work in the Division Street Garage has been completed. On Monday (7/23), the contractor began the repair work on the Charles Street Parking Garage. The contractor will complete some minor concrete patching along with interior sealant. Deck-coating will also be done in both Division and Charles Street Parking Garages. The exterior caulking and brick repair has been completed in the Charles Street Parking Garage. All lanes of street traffic have been opened back up, as well as the alley. Barricading and signage will be in place to help with pedestrian and traffic flow in garages. This work will impact some parking spaces in the garage. Because of some unexpected necessary repairs, the project has been extended for several days. The project is expected to be completed by mid-August.

Sidewalk Repairs

Construction at the intersection of Albert Ave. and Collingwood Drive has been rescheduled to begin on Monday, (8/06). There will be a complete closure of the intersection. There will be pedestrian and vehicle detours. It is anticipated the intersection will be closed for three weeks.
