Downtown Construction Update 7-20-18

Center City

As mentioned previously, sidewalks on Grand River Avenue are re-opened temporarily to allow pedestrian access adjacent to the site. In the near future the covered walkway near the site will need to close again to allow the safe installation of new sidewalks and streetscape amenities. The utility upgrades under Grand River are expected to be completed by the first week of August, at which point all lanes of Grand River will be re-opened to vehicular traffic. The brick façade on the Grand River frontage is nearing completion as concrete and steel continue to bring the building structure skyward.

More deck and slab-on-grade concrete pours have been completed for the Albert Avenue structure, with more planned in the coming weeks.

The Hub @ East Lansing

Ground level interior slab on grade is complete. First floor decking is moving along, with the first pour for the first floor decking completed on Thursday (7/19). The next deck pour is planned or Wednesday, weather allowing.

An increase in truck traffic continues to be expected as more materials and equipment make their way on site. We continue to monitor the site for safety and implement additional traffic control techniques as necessary. We are working with neighbors on a plan to accommodate access and parking. The plan to install a crosswalk across Bogue St. on the south of the site, is still being developed.

Parking Garage Repairs

Work continues through the downtown Public Parking Garages with concrete and water-proofing repairs. The concrete and patching work in the Division Street Garage has been completed. On Monday, the contractor began the repair work in the Charles Street Garage. The contractor will complete some minor concrete patching, along with interior and exterior sealant replacements. This work will impact some parking spaces in the garage, along with some traffic shifts. Near the end of the month, the final work related to this project will involve deck-coating in areas of the Charles, Division and Grove Parking Garages. Barricading and signage will be in place to help with pedestrian and traffic flow.

Sidewalk Repairs

The intersection of Albert Ave. at Bailey Street has been completed and re-opened on 07/17.

Construction at the intersection of Albert Ave. and Collingwood Drive will begin on Monday, 07/30. There will be a complete closure of the intersection. There will be pedestrian and vehicle detours. It is anticipated the intersection will be closed until 08/17.
