Downtown Construction Update 07-06-18

Center City

This week Albert Avenue reopened one lane (westbound) along with new expanded sidewalks, curbs & gutters, and tree wells on the north side of Albert.

The contractor began removal of sidewalk and underground utility work on the south side of the building beginning this week. As previously noted, this work has required a closure of two lanes of westbound Grand River Avenue, as well as the closure of the sidewalk along Grand River (directly adjacent to the project). Pedestrian access is maintained to all businesses in the district, as detours are in place. This portion of the project is expected to take approximately 1 month to complete.

As the Grand River building continues its ascent, work is underway on the brick façade along the Avenue side of the building.

On the Albert side, more concrete pours are expected next week for the elevated deck.

The Hub @ East Lansing

Interior slab on grade from G to J.2 line was poured on Thursday (07/05). The contractor has continued shoring the first floor deck and is currently extending it out to G-line. The first pour of the deck is estimated to be in two weeks, approximately 07/19. The contractor is currently excavating for the east wall foundation, and will be complete with foundation excavation by the end of this week (07/06). Once that is complete, slab on grade will continue moving west to east.

An increase in truck traffic continues to be expected as more materials and equipment make their way on site. The contractor continues to monitor the site for safety and implement additional traffic control techniques as necessary. The contractor has access to the alley south of the site, allowing easy access for trucks, equipment and materials. The contractor is working with neighbors on a plan to accommodate access and parking. The plan to install a crosswalk across Bogue St. on the south of the site, is still being developed.

Parking Garage Repairs

Work continues through the downtown Public Parking Garages with concrete and water-proofing repairs. The concrete pour to fill the majority of patches in the Division Street Parking Garage has been completed and the contractor is continuing with smaller patches and nosing repairs to some of the expansion joints. The contractor is anticipating beginning the repair work in the Charles Street Parking garage next week. The contractor will do some minor concrete patching, along with interior and exterior sealant replacements. This work will impact a minimal number of parking spaces in the garage, along with some traffic shifts. Later in July, the work will transition to deck-coating in areas of the Charles, Division and Grove Parking Garages. Barricading and signage will be in place to help with pedestrian and traffic flow.

Sidewalk Repairs

The sidewalk repairs at the Albert/Division intersection are complete. This intersection will be completely reopened on Monday (07/09). The contactor will move to the Albert/Bailey intersection on Monday (07/09), and will work on the north side of the street. Once complete the contractor will then move to the south side of the street. This work is anticipated to be completed by 7/19.
