Downtown Construction Update 5-25-18

Center City

Preparations are being finalized for the next elevated deck concrete pours on the Grand River side. An extended hours request has been submitted for one day either Thursday (5/31), or Friday (6/1) of next week. Weather allowing, this work will begin at 5AM and end at 11PM. This elevated deck is a post-tensioned structure that requires extra precaution and time be taken with the placement of the concrete to ensure the best quality end product. The contractor has agreed to minimize any project noise during the extended hours, especially from 5:00AM to 8:00AM. City staff and the construction company are reaching out to adjacent residents.

In the alley, the contractor will be working to cut/cap the existing water main. This work will affect service to most of the businesses and residents directly adjacent to the alley, and is expected to last approximately 2 hours. To minimize the disruption to residents and businesses, this work will occur in the early morning hours. An extended hours permit will allow this work from 4AM to 7AM on One day either Wednesday (5/30) or Thursday (5/31).

On Albert Ave., the water main installation is continuing to make its way eastward towards Grove St. City staff and the contractor will be contacting businesses along Albert Ave. to coordinate connecting to the new service in the near future. More elevated deck pours are planned for the near future, during normal construction hours.

The Hub @ East Lansing

Underground foundations and footings are nearing completion at the site, with stair and elevator cores going vertical. Under slab plumbing work is underway and the electrical work is slated to begin soon as more of the trades make their way onto the project.

Parking Garage Maintenance

Concrete and Waterproofing maintenance continued in the Grove St. garage this week, and is expected to last into the next week or two. The roof has been closed for repairs as the contractor continues to make their way through the garage and stairwells with other concrete and waterproofing work. As the contractor completes the Grove Street garage work, they will continue on to the Charles Street and Division Street garages. During the repairs, patrons can expect some parking spaces to be unavailable for periods of time as the workers make their way throughout the garages. Signs and proper barricading will be placed in the facilities where the work is taking place.
