Construction Update 03-23-18

StartFragment

This week, work continues on columns, stairwells, and other concrete pours. Preparations are underway for the pouring of the upper levels, which is expected to occur soon. Other trades are ramping up work on underground utilities. Plans are being finalized for the shutdown of Albert Avenue, between Grove and Abbot, which is expected to occur on May 7th. City Staff along with the construction contractor will be visiting businesses in the affected area in early April to discuss those plans and to coordinate access for customers and deliveries.

As the Grand River building work is going vertical, covered walkways are being installed to maintain safety for pedestrians along Grand River as well as in the private alley on the east side of the project. As we noted earlier, a section of sidewalk on Grand River directly adjacent to the project area, will be temporarily closed to pedestrians next week. This is to allow for the safe installation of the covered walkway that will take place on Monday, and is expected to take 3 days. Access to businesses on Grand River Ave will be maintained at all times and pedestrian detour signs will be installed.

Thank you for your patience during the construction period. Please remember to sign up for downtown East Lansing construction alerts by texting ELBUZZ to 38470.
