Construction Update 2-23-18

The heavy rains this week slowed progress a bit on the Center City Site, but work is now back on track. The last of the auger cast piles are nearly complete as the concrete foundation work is in full swing, with more pile caps, columns, and shear walls being installed every day. The tower crane is fully operational and is now part of the daily construction. For safety reasons, the crane operator will adjust the working arm so as not to carry loads over any of the adjacent buildings. Also for safety, when not in operation the working arm will rotate on it's gear to absorb the forces of the wind, similar to a weather vane.

With the weather and truck traffic expected at the site, the construction company is actively cleaning up the area on a regular basis. City staff is monitoring area roadways and ensuring that cleanup is managed properly. The construction company also continues to examine the site to mitigate any impacts to the local community.

Thank you for your patience during the construction period. Please remember to sign up for downtown East Lansing construction alerts by texting ELBUZZ to 38470.
