11-19-21 Downtown Construction Updates

MSUFCU East Lansing Building Located at 311 Abbot

The survey contractor has completed marking the locations for the deep foundation piers. Granger is now planning on mobilizing the deep foundations contractor prior to the week of November 22 and starting the deep foundations installation following mobilization and set up of machinery. Deep foundations installation typically takes between 7-10 days to complete with an expected completion date of November 26. Mobilization and installation of concrete foundations and footings will begin the week of November 29 and is estimated to take 5-6 weeks to complete. The lane closure on Abbot Rd. is expected to be reinstalled within the next week.

Lansing Board of Water and Light (BWL) has completed their utility work in the alley.


Traffic Signal Work to Require Intersection Closure at Abbot Road and Albert Avenue - Tentatively scheduled for the week of December 6, 2021


Community members are advised that due to material delays, the traffic signal work is now anticipated to be completed the week of December 6.


Work is anticipated to begin the morning of Monday, December 6 and is anticipated to be completed by 5 p.m. on Friday, December 10. The intersection will be closed daily from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. It is anticipated that the intersection will be opened during the evening and overnight hours.


· Vehicles headed southbound on Abbot Road will be detoured to Oakhill Avenue

· Vehicles headed northbound on Abbot Road will be detoured to M.A.C. Avenue

· Vehicles headed westbound on Albert Avenue will be detoured to Grove Street

· Vehicles headed eastbound on Valley Court will be detoured north onto Evergreen Avenue to Oakhill Ave.


Access to the Grove Street Parking Garage and the Albert Avenue Parking Garage will be maintained. Pedestrian and business access will also be maintained during the work. City staff will be visiting businesses in the affected area to discuss planned road closures and deliveries.
